Web 2.0 Tools

Storybird is an online resource that students and teachers can use to post and communicate about writing.  Students use Storybird to create stories and art work to decide on writing topics or assignments. Once students submit their work online, teachers are able to access the students work to review it. Storybird can be used as a supplemental assignment, homework assignment of even writing workshop if the classroom has the computer access. The extensive resources of pictures and fonts that make their stories individualized encourage students to work with this resource at school and at home. Storybird provides hundreds of pictures the students can use to create their stories. These pictures give the students the opportunity to add detail to their stories. Storybird also allows students to work collaboratively on one story. Students can invite peers to work on stories together regardless if they are in the same classroom or even school. This opens up the opportunity for peer guidance, editing and even pen pals.  Storybird can be controlled by the classroom teacher. The students can be added to a folder so that only their peers can view their work and it is secured away from the open internet.
